When: Tuesday, 9 August 2022; time on location is approximately 1300-1600 hours. Buses will make the rounds and pick up volunteers at your hotel between 1230-1245. Please ensure you provide your hotel location for pick-up below. Buses will depart the project site NLT 1600 to return volunteers to your hotels.

How: A team of at least 15, and no more than 30 volunteers, will put up pine pickets and assist with the construction of approximately 350 linear feet of fence. The site will be prepared in advance by a contractor, including stakes. NO EXPERIENCE IS NECESSARY; personnel will be on site to guide volunteers in the work to be done. Any additional work needed to complete the fence after our volunteer time on site will be completed by the contractor.
Please come prepared to work outside (shorts, t-shirts, comfortable shoes, etc.)
In addition to transportation to/from the project site, we will provide each volunteer with an EANGUS OVC branded t-shirt, and a sack lunch to eat enroute to the site. Water will be provided on-site. Hat and sunscreen are recommended.
The Veteran’s Story: Mr. W is a United States Army Veteran that served from 2007-2010. When he moved to Arkansas, Mr. W initially found employment with a transitional housing partner, the St. Francis House. Being a homeless Veteran once himself, Mr. Walker feels that his mission is to give back and foster hope for other Veterans and their families, especially those experiencing homelessness. Working with Veterans has been his life work since he got out of the service. He has worked for the Department of Veteran Affairs since 2014 and is currently assigned to work with the VA’s HUDVASH Homeless Veterans Program. While being a resident of the St. Francis House, Mr. W qualified for the Habitat for Humanity new home program and was fortunate to have a home built for him in 2021. The original plan for this home included a fence so that he could receive a service dog to aid with his PTSD. Unfortunately, the funding provided was not enough to allow for the fence to be built, which has caused a delay in him acquiring a service dog.
EANGUS requests volunteers to assist with building the fence for Mr. W’s home so that he can finally get the service dog he needs. We want to ensure that this need is fulfilled. Please join us as we work to take care of one of our own – a proud U.S. Veteran!
ABOUT Operation Vetcare: OVC can provide limited financial assistance for Veterans and military servicemembers of any branch and their families, on a case-by-case basis during a crisis. This financial assistance may help Veterans pay some of the costs associated with an emergency need for home, car, or other “hands-on” repair. For families facing a temporary, service-related crisis, the help we provide may be gift cards that can be used to purchase, food, clothing, and other necessary items; this is typically a small stipend of up to a couple hundred dollars. OVC also supports community service projects conducted by State Associations in communities across the United States. Upon approval, EANGUS provides funding for projects/events such as providing holiday meals or support to VA or State Veterans Homes, or purchasing gifts, socks, or other necessities for a group of Veterans, as well as the funds to do home repairs, build a wheelchair ramp, or do needed painting/landscaping at a veteran’s house. If you are interested in doing an OVC community service project in your State, please contact us at eangus@eangus.org or go to our website.
“Thank you” for being an OVC Volunteer!
